Account: Common immigrant from northern Europe, appearing in southern England, and in recent years an increasingly common resident which continues to extend its range northwards, probably as a result of the increase in temperatures in the region The most likely confusion species is Clay Mythimna ferrago, which is usually larger, has the reniform spot less rounded and the subterminal fascia clearly dotted (MBGBI Vol 9). Larva feeds on Common Couch, Cock's-foot and various grasses.
