Family: Tortricidae

Subfamily: Olethreutinae

Taxon: Cydia medicaginis

Authority: (Kuznetzov, 1962)

Vernacular: Alfalfa Moth

Account: Vulnerable (proposed as a future Red Data Book species) on waste ground in parts of south-eastern England. This species was found in Essex in 1988, and subsequent research revealed hitherto undetected specimens in collections, including two taken in Southampton in 1970. Since then, further specimens have been taken in Hampshire. Not recorded from the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 9-11 mm. It is unlikely that records of this species will be accepted unless the specimen is retained for examination. Larva feeds on seeds of Lucerne and Black Medick.
