Vernacular: Yellow Shell

Account: Common in hedgerows, gardens, rough meadows, woodland rides, downland, heathland and freshwater margins throughout the British Isles Unmistakable. The UK population is divided into several allopatric subspecies representing Britain, Shetland, Ireland and the Blasket Islands. Larva feeds on various herbaceous plants, including Cleavers, Bedstraw, Wormwood and Dock.
