Vernacular: Spring Usher

Account: Common in deciduous, especially oak, woodland, mature hedgerows, parks and gardens throughout the British Isles. Widespread and reasonably common in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight. Wingspan male 31-37 mm, female wingless. Much more delicate than the superficially similar Mottled Umber Erannis defoliaria. Larva feeds on Pedunculate and Sessile Oak, over-wintering as a pupa.
